Hasselmann relies on BIM

Building Information Modeling (BIM) will change more than just the technical platforms for planning, construction and project management.

"Transformation of business success with BIM"

Alexander Dobrindt, Federal Minister for Transport and Digital Infrastructure, and Deutsche Bahn AG's CEO Rüdiger Grube signed a financing agreement on 5 October 2016 for 13 DB Netz AG pilot projects on the railways, where digital planning and construction (" Building Information Modeling ", BIM) is applied. The federal government is investing around 20 million euros in the pilot projects. DB is investing around nine million euros from its own funds.

The digital planning and building method is based on transparency, trust, openness and cooperation of all project partners in all phases - from the project idea and the needs analysis through the planning, the approval procedures, the awarding of the contract, the execution to the billing and commissioning. Operation, maintenance, servicing, renewal and demolition can also be managed through Building Information Modeling. Experience gained so far with BIM in the Tunnel Rastatt project has been consistently positive: The quality of planning and project management has already been significantly improved. Therefore, BIM will in future be used in all major railway projects.

Digital building also has advantages for the public in the project environment: More planning transparency enables better public participation. Digital tools support the discussion about route variants or the design of engineering structures. In the approval procedure, technical details can be visualized and thus presented more clearly. Thus, BIM means a cultural change among all project participants.
